We recently enjoyed a meal with them on their beautiful patio. I imagine that all their meals will be enjoyed this way.
It's no secret that the Knapp's like cocktails. Our friends prepared a Pink Salty dog which is ideal for this coastal setting and the ambience of this summer evening.
Pink Salty Dog
Serves 1
Recipe from Martha Stewart and prepared by Becki Watson
Ingredients:
Coarse salt for rim of glass
Grapefruit slice, for garnish
1/3 cup freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice
2 tablespoons vodka
1 tablespoon Campari liqueur, or grenadine
1 to 1/2 cup of ice cubes
Directions:
Place salt in a saucer. Moisten the rim of the glass with a grapefruit slice. Dip rim in salt. Combine juice and vodka with Campari or grenadine in the jar of a blender; with the motor running, add ice until fully incorporated and slushy. Pour into prepared glass.
Enjoy!

This is such a fun cocktail, Velva! I love the name, the color, and the addition of grapefruit. I think this would be a great cocktail to serve at brunch!
That's one good cocktail and everyday is Saturday is a wonderful thing! Congrats to your friends!
I haven't had a salty dog since we moved from Charleston. Not that it's a Charleston specialty. Guess I just feel the need to be close to the sea for one. Does Lake Michigan count?
Best,
Bonnie
Morning Velva! what does it say when I look at your cocktail at 9:30 Sunday morn and want to sip it? haha!
Salty dogs are usually "tall" built drinks so I've not seen it made as a martini or with Campari but I know I would love it as La Diva just lurves her some tart drinks! Divine!
Mmmmmmmm this looks delicious. I just wish Nigel could retire so together everyday would be Saturday! Diane
My grandmother always put salt on her grapefruit (instead of sugar, like me). This cocktail looks delish and reminds me of her. I've just gotta try this! Thanks!
Very Saturday! I would love that for brunch and then take a long nap on the couch! (Also very Saturday)
I'm not a big cocktail drinker, but this one sounds delish. What a treat on a Saturday night with friends.
Such a pretty drink!
Love this Pink Salty Dog! Looks so refreshing that I might just have to make up a batch! Cheers!

The name, the color...I'm sold! Perfectly refreshing and fun.
This sounds so good. I love campari. I usually use orange juice, but this recipe with pink grapefruit juice sounds great. I wish it was the season for these drinks, here, up north!
I've never had one but think I'll have to give it a try. Come on over to link it up at Tailgating Time at Seaside Simplicity - we're having a giveaway this week too! :-)

And why wasn't I invited???
This Salty Dog looks fabulous. I LOVE it when you post drink recipes, Velva!
I would have loved all of these cool cocktail posts about 10 years ago when I was partying my face off. He He. I still have an incredibly full stocked bar, but we rarely do anything too creative with the ingredients there. I can't drink wine anymore; it puts me to sleep. I can't drink hard liquor, I get a headache. Oh, none of my friends have these issues, and they are my age - so I don't know why this has happened to me. I miss that bubbly feeling and the fun of the MIXING it up! We have rarely heard of a Salty Dog in the Alberta Prairies. It does look yummy! Hate missing your posts, Velva... and don't like you missing mine, either (big tear!)
:)
Valerie
Velma, thanks for the kind words! I know, isn't blogging the perfect outlet for all that pent-up food commentary? :) Love your blog, I will definitely follow! I'm particularly intrigued by this cocktail-- being married to the Booze Hound I'm always up for the latest libation!
A refreshing drink!
Mimi
